Because we don't want to forget anyone, we need to thank everyone who has supported our band through the years. To those who encouraged us by simply choosing to spend time at one of our gigs and others who carried equipment, ran lights suggested songs, hired us, heckled, or simply spread the word about Serapis, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. We particularly like you for buying this cd.

We have been fortunate to perform with some "pretty good musicians...And that's the way we like it."FZ Those who have contriburted to the Serapis sound include: Gordon Bland, Brian Casserly, Rick Clifford, Randy Desplinter, Jim Gould, Mark Moebeck, and Steve Snyder.

Hope you've had as much fun as we have.
Gene, Tony, Bob and Todd

Rick Clifford: Saxophone on "Roll On"
Brian Casserly: Trumpet on "Roll On"
John Higgins: Pedal Steel Guitar on "On The Greener Side"

Foreword by Capper Jones:

A real serious man wearing a slick suit and shoes just like young Inman's Pop's stormed past and into rotating glass doors. He pushed the turning door with some might, got it to move and suddenly found himself inside an echo-chamber of monolithic marble and hundreds and hundreds of men who looked exactly the same. No one noticed Inman for a while, they just kept yelling and pointing and looking up. A guard escorted Inman back to the rotating doors. "Sir, I'm looking for the market that will take care of everything," Inman asked. "It's not here." Inman sat on the building's steps in a rational quandry. A bum sat a few feet away. "What's the matter, ol' boy?" Inman looked at him and questioned, "Where's the market that takes care of everything." The bum replied, "My friend, this is the stock market, You've been to the grocery store, a market of victuals. Any place that sells anything is in its own market. The market that takes care of everything though, well, you might hear a lot about it but - it's a fiction of human creation. It's just out there. It's unknowable, uncapturable. It's some creation of forces, and artificial web preventing human inquiry." Inman was confued, "But my Pop says history shows the market takes care of everything." The bum laughed. "History, eh. Tell me, what's history, young man? Is it the actual past? No! It's only re-examinable, not re-creatable. It's someone's resurrection of themes retrospective from happenings learned through a miniscule amount of existing resources. The sources are the keys to puzzles which we cannot solve, and still they may provide answers to questions we have not yet learned to ask. History, the market - my young friend - your pursuit is for a myth."
- Capper Jones

Who Do You Think You Are?
Todd Luerding
Listen: Who Do You Think You Are?

Who do you think you are
Who do you think you're foolin'

You have all the answers - but it's a safe bet
I think the chances are - you've not heard all the questions yet
Don't let the bright lights blind you with their lies
Behind their facade - they're only fires in disguise

Don’t think it’s easy
No two are ever the same
You’ll never be able to gain any ground
Just staying ahead of the game

Who do you think you are
Who do you think you're foolin'

So stop all the fighting
You are who you are
You might win a battle now and then
But it's never worth the war

Who do you think you are
Who do you think you're foolin'

Make My Day
Tony Chambers
Listen: Make My Day

Why don't you make my day and stay all night with me
Why don't you take some time and see what we can be

Well there's no where to go
And I think you know that we're
Both heading down that road

All the phones are down
All the power's out and there's
No one else around

Why don't you make my day and stay all night with me
Why don't you take some time and see what we can be

But the fire's stoked
And the radio's broke - and we can
Sit back and watch it snow

Why don't you make my day and stay all night with me
Why don't you take some time and see what we can be

We've got arms to hold
We've got lips to touch
Things we haven't told
Things we needso much
This time we don't need to rush

Why don't you make my day and stay all night with me
Why don't you take some time and see what we can be

Only Human
Todd Luerding
Listen: Only Human

There’s a light in you eyes tonight
Where yesterday’s worries used to be
Suddenly your mind’s thinking clearly
You say it’s because of me

Honey, I’ve got a confession to make
I never thought I would see
A girl with a love like yours
Fall for a man like me

I’m Only Human -- Don’t let yourself be fooled by my disguise
I see it in your eyes – you’re looking for
Somebody who is stronger than you

I’m Only Human --I’ve made the same mistakes as you
And it’s so nice to realize that you are
Only Human, too

I think we’d better take a look
Evaluate the situation
Somewhere in that last embrace
I think I had a revelation

I know we’ve all been lied to
Disappointed and left to wonder
Before you get yourself set up
I’ve got news for you

I’m Only Human -- Don’t let yourself be fooled by my disguise
I see it in your eyes – you’re looking for
Somebody who is stronger than you

I’m Only Human --I’ve made the same mistakes as you
And it’s so nice to realize that you are
Only Human, too

All my friends just can’t believe
When they see you here with me
And I know - Who’d have believed it
After all – I’m Only Human

Get On Out
Tony Chambers
Listen: Get On Out

Get on out and take it in
Seems like time is moving fast
Get on out and take it in
Take what you've got and make it last

Saving stuff collecting things
Just keeps piling up
When it seems you can't get enough
Keep filling up your cup.

Get on out and take it in
Seems like time is moving fast
Get on out and take it in
Take what you've got and make it last

Got to dance got to sing
Got to find your own thing
Take a chance make it last
Can't keep living in the past

Learn to laugh, expect to cry
Let emotions fly
Heart and soul will lead the way
Never know until you try

Get on out and take it in
Seems like time is moving fast
Get on out and take it in
Take what you've got and make it last

Get on out.
Take a chance.

Avalanche
Todd Luerding
Listen: Avalanche

Intro (4 bars)

(one verse)
can't meet the morning - just stay in bed
won't heed the warning - there's a steep slope overhead
so smooth to look at - so soft and white
so fun to play with - but the danger's right behind

(Chorus)
there's na Avalanche - slidin' down on you
like an Avalanche - nothin' you can do

(another verse)
can't find a footing - on snowy ground
know who your friends are - take the long way around
disguise your motions - sneak 'round the back
stay in one place too long - you might fall in the cracks

(Chorus)
there's an Avalanche - thunderin' down on you
like an Avalanche - ain't nothin' but a fool
solo

(bridge)
no time to worry 'bout the danger that could fall
day or night you call, you've got my number on your wall
no time to think about what Dr Ivan said
hear the bell I'm runnin' to receive my daily bread

(chorus)
there's an Avalanche - thunderin' down on you
like an Avalanche - ain't nothin' but a fool

Mister CIA
Jim Findlay
Listen: Mister CIA

I'm Mister CIA, I'm having lots of fun
I've been all over the world, I live in Washington
You see me everywhere, but you don't know who I am
Could be the President , or the neighborhood ice cream man

Mister CIA won't you give me a nod, I need a steady job.

I'm Mister CIA, I'm really having a ball
I can bust your head, or put my fist through a wall
If you like juntas and coups, come along with me
I get to start them ,yself, and that's OK with "the company"

Mister CIA won't you give me a nod, I need a steady job.

Don't trust anybody but the devil and the dollar bill
You've got a license to kill and a little cyanide pill
And just like Napoleon when everything was going great
You're gonna turn around and meet your Watergate.

I'm Mister CIA I'm having lots of fun
I help new governments, I get to carry a gun
You see me everywhere but you son't know who I am
Could be a movie star or the head of the Ku Klux Klan

Mister CIA won't you give me a nod, I need a steady job.

I'm Mister CIA.

Don't Point Your Gun At Me
Tony Chambers
Listen: Don't Point Your Gun At Me

Sometimes I sleep in the nighttime
Sometimes I stay in bed all day long.
Outside the streets are ragin'
And I don't know who's right or wrong

I hope that freedom is all they say it's gonna be
Until that day comes - please don't point your gun at me

The winds of war are blowing
People don't know which way to turn
Must be a really good reason
Why I'm watchin my city burn

I hope that freedom is all they say it's gonna be
Until that day comes - please don't point your gun at me

Seems like the world is watching
Waiting for answers here today
No more time for talking
Guess now it's my turn to pray

I hope that freedom is all they say it's gonna be
Until that day comes - please don't point your gun at me

On The Greener Side
Michelle Shocked
Listen: On The Greener Side

Send me a dozen long stemmed roses
I'll tell you what I will do
I'll bend them into a crown of thorns
Then send them right back to you

Your love love love
Don't keep me satisfied
Though I've never been there
I know it's always greener
On the greener side

Say you want to give me a run for my money
Here's something I'm gonna admit
It may sound funny, but Romeo honey
Don't give me none of

Your love love love
Don't keep me satisfied
Though I've never been there
I know it's always greener
On the greener side

My love is like a wishing well
Your love is like a clear blue sky
Sometimes it takes a thunder storm
To fill me when I'm dry

Your love love love
Don't keep me satisfied
Though I've never been there
I know it's always greener
On the greener side

Roll On
Todd Luerding
Listen: Roll On

Got no money in my pocket
But I got holes in both my shoes
And I'm not runnin' with the big dogs
But at least I've paid my dues

And from where I sit I see
This line between us growing long
Between the "haves" and those who struggle
Just to try to get along

And how the people laugh, the people sing
They fill the night with joy
They hang their brightly-painted baubles everywhere
They laugh and carry on as if they just don't care
They let the world roll on

VERSE 2

(Some men would) have you think of them as king
Of all the lands that they survey
Looking up from counting (only long enough)
To see a party underway

And from where they sit they see
The world beneath them - don't they know
That life can end before it begins
and he who has the most toys wins
and you can't take nothing with you when you go

And still those people laugh, the people sing
They fill the night with joy
They hang their brightly-painted baubles everywhere
They laugh and carry on as if they just don't care
They let the world roll on

Heart of the Order
Tony Chambers
Listen: Heart of the Order

Hearts and minds filling up with dreams
It's always been this way - or so it seems
Lives sewn together like a seamless quilt
Standing on a rock this team was built

We're a gang and we stick together come what may
We're a team and we're undefeated every day
We're getting dirty fall behind
Really doesn't matter 'cos we still have time

We've got the heart of the order and we're comin' up to the plate
Always stick together it's never too late
We've got the heart of the order and a message to send
Never gonna let this winning streak end

Swingin' big sticks and mowin' 'em down
Running at will and batting around
Things get tough or get out of hand
Goin' down swinging gonna take a stand

We're a gang and we stick together come what may
We're a team and we're undefeated every day
We're getting dirty, fall behind
Really doesn't matter 'cos we still have time

We've got the heart of the order and we're comin' up to the plate
Always stick together it's never too late
We've got the heart of the order and a message to send
Never gonna let this winning streak end

Lightnin' Lil
Tony Chambers
Listen: Lightnin' Lil

So you've gone away from me
And the ones who love you
Still, I know where you will be
Riding over that hill

On Lightnin' Lil

Your ship has sailed out to see
And it's gone from view
To a place that sets you free
Where it's peaceful and still

On Lightnin' Lil

Never know the words to say
Things are never gonna be the same
But your spirit still remains

Time will come for us to see
What you know now
We'll ride together on that day
Yes, I know we will

On Lightnin' Lil
